Gallery Wall Planner

Drag frames on a wall, try your own photos and see it above your couch or bed. You get every nail height and a list of the frame sizes to buy.

Quick answer: Plan a gallery wall with its center at eye level, about 57–60 in (145–152 cm) from the floor, keep 2–3 in (5–8 cm) between frames, and above a couch or bed leave 6–10 in (15–25 cm) before the lowest frame. Drag the frames below and the planner gives the nail height for each one.

Your photos stay on your device: nothing is uploaded. Your layout is saved in this browser so you can come back to it.

How to plan a gallery wall

  1. Set your wall. Enter the wall width and height, and add the couch, bed or console the frames hang over.
  2. Add frames in your sizes. Pick standard sizes such as 8×10, 11×14, 16×20 or 24×36 in, or type your own. Choose the frame color and whether it has a mat.
  3. Try your own photos. Tap a frame and add a photo, or add several at once. Switch to Preview to see the wall as it will look.
  4. Arrange and line up. Drag frames into place; they snap to an even gap. Use Center group to center the whole layout on the wall or the furniture.
  5. Hang it. Copy or print the nail list: each nail is measured from the left wall and from the floor, with the hook drop already taken off. Download the wall as an image to keep the plan.

Gallery wall rules that work

Treat the whole group as one large picture: hang it so its center is at eye level, about 57–60 in (145–152 cm) from the floor, the same height used in galleries. Keep the gaps between frames even, usually 2–3 in (5–8 cm); wider gaps make the group look scattered.

Above furniture, the group should cover about two-thirds to three-quarters of its width, and the lowest frame should sit 6–10 in (15–25 cm) above the back of the couch or the headboard. Start with the largest frame near the center and build out from it.

Frequently asked questions

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Photos are opened in your browser and stay on your device. Nothing is sent to Frame Calculator or anyone else.

How are the nail heights worked out?

Each nail height is the frame’s top edge from the floor minus its hook drop, the distance from the top of the frame down to the wire or D-ring. Set the hook drop for each frame to match its hanger.

Can I save my layout?

Yes. The planner keeps your layout in this browser, so it’s there next time on the same device. You can also download the wall as an image or print the nail list.

Does it work in centimeters?

Yes. Switch between inches and centimeters at the top of the planner; the nail list and frame sizes follow.
