What It Does
The Hanging Calculator helps you find the exact position to place hooks on your wall so that your artwork hangs exactly where you want it. No more trial and error, no more unnecessary holes, no more crooked frames.
Simply enter your wall dimensions, frame size, and the hook drop measurement, and the calculator tells you precisely where to put your hook. It even generates a visual diagram of your wall to help you see the result before you pick up a drill.
Why We Built This
Hanging pictures seems simple until you try it. You measure, you mark, you drill... and the frame ends up too high, too low, or off-centre. Most people have a wall somewhere with extra holes hidden behind a frame.
We built this calculator because the maths involved isn't difficult - it's just easy to get wrong when you're holding a tape measure and a pencil while trying to visualise the result. The calculator handles the arithmetic so you can focus on getting your art on the wall.

Privacy First
All calculations happen in your browser. We don't collect, store, or transmit any of your data.
How It Works
The calculator uses a simple formula: Hook Height = Reference Height + (Frame Height / 2) - Hook Drop
The "reference height" is where you want the centre of your artwork - typically eye level (around 1530mm from the floor). "Hook drop" is the distance from the top of your frame to where the hanging wire catches the hook.
By accounting for the hook drop, the calculator ensures your frame centre lands exactly at your chosen height, regardless of frame size or hanging hardware.
Free Forever
The Hanging Calculator is completely free to use with no sign-ups and no premium tiers. We built it because we needed it ourselves, and we're happy to share it with anyone who finds it useful.
